The Mother Before the Court

The Mother Before the Court

From "The Book of the Taken and the Fighting" — Chapter One

This is for the mother who walks into a courtroom alone. The mother whose story has been twisted. The mother who was never taught the language of power. The mother who froze, who broke, who bowed her head because she thought she had no right to lift it.

This is for the mother who is still fighting.

I. The Summoning

And it came to pass that the mother was summoned before the court,
not as a protector,
not as a witness,
but as an accused.

Her hands trembled not from guilt,
but from the weight of a system that had already decided
what kind of woman she must be.

For the world teaches men the language of authority,
but teaches women the language of apology —
and the mother stood there speaking the wrong tongue.

And the court mistook her fear for instability,
her silence for ignorance,
her trembling for unfitness.

Yet none saw the truth:
that she had walked through storms
that would have broken the ones who judged her.

II. The Language She Was Never Taught

And the mother opened her mouth to speak,
but the words came out twisted by years of being silenced.

For no one had taught her
the dialect of legal rooms,
the cadence of confidence,
the posture of those who have never been afraid.

And the court mistook her trauma for incompetence,
her survival instincts for defiance,
her exhaustion for neglect.

They did not know
that she had learned to speak only in ways
that kept her alive.

III. The System That Feeds on the Unprepared

And the system, seeing her unarmored,
tightened its grip.

For the system is a beast that feeds on the unprepared,
the overwhelmed,
the unheard.

It devours the mother who cannot afford an advocate,
the mother who cannot articulate her pain,
the mother who has been trained to obey.

And the mother felt the walls closing in,
not because she was unfit,
but because she was alone.

IV. The Father Who Broke Her Voice Before the Court Ever Heard It

And the people asked,
"Why does she not speak clearly?
Why does she not stand tall?
Why does she not fight harder?"

They did not see
the years her voice had been broken
before she ever entered the courtroom.

They did not see
the gaslighting that rewrote her memories,
the manipulation that hollowed her confidence,
the fear that taught her to shrink.

They did not see
that she had been trained to lose
long before the battle began.

V. The Mother Who Rose Anyway

Yet the ember within her —
the one buried beneath years of silence —
began to glow.

For even a trembling mother
is still a mother.

And even a silenced woman
carries a roar inside her bones.

And even a broken voice
can rise when the child calls.

VI. The Declaration

And the truth proclaimed:

"The mother is not the danger.
The mother is the witness.
The mother is the history-keeper.
The mother is the one who knows the whole story."

"And the system fears her
because she carries the truth
that cannot be buried."

"Let the mother rise.
Let her voice return.
Let her stand not as the accused,
but as the one who survived."

VII. The Call to the Taken

And this chapter is written
for every mother whose children were taken
not because she was unfit,
but because she was unheard.

For every mother who froze.
For every mother who broke.
For every mother who bowed her head
because she thought she had no right to lift it.

This is your scripture.
This is your fire.
This is your return.
