Chapter Four: The Sacred Bond and the Call for Justice
CHAPTER FOUR
The Sacred Bond and the Call for Justice
The Re-Anchoring
1 And the Lord spake again unto the people, saying:
“Remember the bond I established from the beginning,
the covenant woven between mother and child,
the ember placed within every heart.”
2 “Remember also the wound that hath spread through generations,
and the scar tissue that hath hardened around the ember.”
3 “For the land cannot be healed
until the people understand the weight of what hath been broken.”
The Divine Summons
4 “Therefore arise, O people,
and incline your hearts unto justice.
For I have heard the cries of the innocent,
and I have seen the sorrow of the mothers.”
5 “I call you now to stand in the breach,
to defend the vulnerable,
to shield the weary,
and to restore what hath been torn.”
The Moral Awakening
6 And the people trembled, for they perceived that the wound was not the burden of one household only, but the responsibility of all who dwell in the land.
7 And the Lord said:
“You shall no longer turn your faces from the suffering of your neighbor,
nor close your ears to the cries of the children.”
8 “For the harm that is ignored groweth stronger,
and the wound that is hidden spreadeth like a shadow across the generations.”
The Call for Justice
9 “Establish justice in your gates,” saith the Lord,
“that the innocent may dwell in safety
and the mothers may walk without fear.”
10 “Let no hand harm a child without answer,
nor any voice silence the truth of the oppressed.”
11 “For justice is the first breath that uncovereth the ember,
and righteousness the wind that fanneth it into flame.”
The Protection of the Ember
12 “Guard the ember in one another,” saith the Lord,
“for the ember in your brother’s heart is as precious as your own.”
13 “Strengthen the weary,
uplift the broken,
and speak life unto the discouraged,
that the ember may glow again in every household.”
14 “For when the ember is protected in the least of these,
the light of the whole land is preserved.”
The First Movement Toward Restoration
15 “Know this truth:
justice is the beginning of healing,
and compassion is the path that leadeth the wounded home.”
16 “The lineage that turneth toward justice
turneth also toward restoration.”
The Communal Response
17 And the people lifted their voices, saying:
“We will rise in righteousness;
we will defend the bond;
we will guard the ember in every heart.”
18 And the Lord said, “So shall the healing begin.”
